Transitioning Military Expertise into Civilian Healthcare:                      James's Journey

James Aird, a former Chief Technician in the Royal Air Force (RAF), embarked on a remarkable journey transitioning his extensive military expertise into the civilian healthcare sector. Through the Armed Forces Talent Programme, James found his niche in NHS Lanarkshire, where he currently serves as a Senior Applications Analyst, leveraging his skills to support critical IT infrastructure.

With an illustrious career spanning 23 years in the RAF, James specialised as a TG1 Aircraft Engineer, focusing on Avionic & Electrical systems. His tenure was marked by dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence. Alongside his RAF duties, James volunteered as a Service Instructor with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, fostering leadership and mentorship skills.

Upon exiting the RAF in June 2022, James sought to channel his expertise into a new domain. His experience, coupled with a passion for technology, led him to pursue opportunities in the IT sector. Through the Armed Forces Talent Programme,  James seamlessly transitioned into a role at NHS Lanarkshire as a Senior Applications Analyst.

In his capacity as a Senior Analyst, James operates within a core Microsoft 365 Team, providing Tier 2 support for NHS Lanarkshire. He tackles complex IT issues, collaborates with users to find solutions, and supports junior team members. Additionally, James liaises with NHS Scotland National Help Desk and Microsoft to resolve escalated issues, ensuring seamless functionality of critical systems.
